Yom Limmud

Perhaps the best known of the BJE's programs is its annual Yom Limmud or Day of Jewish Learning. Yom Limmud provides a unique opportunity for Jews from all denominations and walks of life to come together in one place at one time to learn, exchange ideas, and share experiences. Scores of seminars, featuring presentations by rabbis, cantors, Jewish educators, college professors, cultural arts specialists, and other experts are facilitated throughout the day. The event also provides special programming for children and teachers.

Yom Limmud 2010 will take place on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at Congregation Beth Israel.

Yom Limmud has been generously underwritten by the Barish Family and The Chair King.

Hebrew Jump Start

The always-popular Hebrew Jump Start is back! From 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., participants will become familiar with the sounds of the Hebrew letters and vowels, and will read directly from the Torah by the time they finish! This is a good introduction to reading Hebrew. Participants will take home materials to help reinforce what they have learned.

Shabbat Limmud

Five Houston area congregations will each host a Scholar-in-Residence for the Shabbat preceding Yom Limmud, a program made possible by the Barish Family. The Barish Shabbat Limmud scholars will speak at their host congregations on February 12 and 13, 2010 and each will make an additional presentation at Yom Limmud on Sunday.

The 2010 Barish Shabbat Limmud Scholars are: Dr. Miriam Bodian, Rabbi Zvi Grumet, Rabbi Eli Kaunfer, Dr. Steven Windmueller, and Michael Yohay.  More information

Tzedakah Project

The JCC's Meals on Wheels program needs our help in providing extra food for their weekend and holiday clients who receive standard or kosher meal deliveries. Please bring with you to Yom Limmud at least one easily-opened, single serving non-perishable canned good; the Meals on Wheels truck will be collecting your donations as you arrive.
